Remote Surveillance With IP Cameras |
This solution from Lorex enables remote viewing of surveillance cameras installed in your primary or vacation home from your PC via video streaming over the Internet. For real time viewing there is a Pan/Tilt/Zoom Camera Kit with software designed to control the camera functions to zero into the exact places of interest within the camera range. For snapshots of possible intrusion there is a Day/Night Camera Kit with a fixed lens and motion detection to record a video clip of movement within the home and send it to you via email.
The Pan/Tilt/Zoom Camera Kit at right includes the color camera and video server with USB and Ethernet cables. The camera has an adjustable-focus lens with a focus distance from 2 inches to infinity. The minimum illumination for this camera is 2.5 lux at f1.4. The camera pan is 320º @ 90º per second and max tilt is 60º at 90º per second. Auto adjust is built-in for white balance, exposure, color/brightness, sharpness, contrast and light source. Power is supplied to the camera via the USB connection to the video server.
The identical video server is included in both camera kits. This compact device is 1.9" x 2.5" x .8" in dimension. An included 5.3vDC power adapter plugs into a standard 110VAC outlet. The video server contains a wired Ethernet jack and two USB connections, both 1.1 and 2.0 compliant. The software CD walks you through network and camera setup. The camera connects to the video server via a USB cable, and the video server connects to a port on your broadband router. PC requirements for video viewing are Windows XP/2000, Pentium III 800 mHz, 128 MB RAM, and 64 MB of hard drive space. Note the video server functions as a web server and does not require a PC to be connected for normal operation.
The Day/Night Camera Kit at left also includes the day/night color camera and video server with USB and Ethernet cables. The fixed lens camera has 6 imbedded LEDs providing a night-time effective range up to 6.5 feet. This camera contains a 1/3" color CMOS VGA sensor with 350,000 pixels and supports picture formats from 640x480 down to 160x120 CIF and VGA. The focus distance and auto adjust features are the same as the p/t/z camera above.
Note each video server can support 2 cameras. However the cameras included in these kits are not available from Lorex separately, so a kit must be purchased for each camera desired. As a practical matter the USB cable length limits the separation between two cameras connected to the same video server to 12 feet, which may not be desirable to get the required camera coverage within the home anyway.
