Don't be fooled by the appearance of the HP z565 Digital Entertainment Center (DEC). While it looks like another component in your entertainment complex, it's a top of the line media PC in capability.
The HP DEC comes with the three components shown above plus all the cables necessary to integrate this system seemlessly into your home entertainment setup. To control the features of the DEC you only need the wireless keyboard with track ball in the foreground or the remote control on the left. The keyboard works well from 12-15 ft away from the DEC unit and is a significant improvement over the wireless mouse and keyboard that came with earlier HP Media PCs, it more than doubles the range of the keyboard and eliminates a separate mouse device plus two AA batteries. While the keyboard is needed for traditional PC input, the remote control handles all the media center functions as well as control of your cable or satellite set-top box.
The rear of the z565 HP DEC shows the connectivity supported by this system. This includes:
- 2 standard NTSC TV tuners with pause, review, and programmable record capabilities
- 1 high definition over-the-air ATSC TV tuner with the same capabilities
- 1 FM radio tuner with pause and replay capabilities and RF coaxial antenna
- Video output jacks for HDMI, VGA, component video (one each)
- RCA Audio stereo inputs via left and right channel jacks for each NTSC tuner
- 8 RCA Audio ports for 7.1 surround sound analog output, plus 5.1 surround sound output via digital optical and coaxial outputs
- 6 USB 2.0 ports
- 1 4-pin FireWire and 1 6-pin Firewire port (IEEE 1394)
- 9-in-1 Flash Media Card Reader (front accessible)
- 2 infrared (IR) blaster ports with cables included to control set-top boxes
