Integrate an Existing Home Security System

Do you have an existing standalone security and alarm system that does it's job, but is not integrated with any of your other home devices? If you have a need to monitor all your devices remotely, when you are not at home or at a second home, computer-based integration provides the ability to view these devices via the Internet. Home Automation Inc. (HAI) offers the Omni line of control and security systems which can replace the functionality of most existing standalone security systems, and also integrate HVAC and other X10 devices into a single system view. An installed Omni II security panel is shown below.

Installed HAI Omni II Panel The Omni panel replaced the security system installed when the home was built. The panel was mounted in the same location as the original panel, and the control console was mounted on the wall in the same location as the original console. The sensor wires were terminated inside the Omni panel, as was a telephone connection and the original alarm horn shown at the bottom center of the picture at right. In addition the Omni II panel supports up to four thermostats and/or remote temperature sensors, and an X10 controller shown next to the horn at right plugged into the wall outlet above the power transformer. The Omni II panel connects to your PC via a serial port using a direct cat5 cable or a modem.

The Omni II panel can be monitored and controlled from your PC and through the Internet by the HAI Web-Link II software, or the Homeseer software with the HAI Panel plug-in module. The latter is used in the JCL Automation Demo House. We suggest you view the demo house to better understand the type of functionality available with Homeseer, since it is the software providing the "integrated system view" of all the automation devices in our demo house.

Omni II Console As a backup or alternate to PC controls for the Omni II, the local console pictured at right provides a complete array of commands to setup and operate the system using the push buttons shown on the console. The use of this console is described in some detail in the 70 page owner's manual provided with the system. The Omni II also provides a telephone command capability using your phone push buttons. In order for this capability to function, the telephone company must install an RJ31X jack at your home to isolate the Omni phone line from the other phone jacks in your house.
